I am a two stroke lover. I owned three Saabs, one Suzuki 2cyl,2cycle jeep and a Subaru 360 van. Still to this day ride a CZ motorcycle and have an early Puch. Wartburgs were sold in California in the early 60s.

I was a Wartburg technician. I worked on Wartburgs from 1981 until 1999 when I left my country. I love them all, Barkas B1000, Trabant, Wartburg 353. I saw a 1984 Wartburg 353 three weeks ago in Craigslist in Tampa FL. I tried to buy it but I was late. I will ask my brothers for all my original documents from the IFA factory of when I use to work for them.

Having grown up in the US Northeast in the 50s and 60s I've always been a big fan of DKW/AU and Saab two-strokes. I'm happy to see so many Wartburgs exist in the US. Hope to own one some day. Currently have a 1973 Citroen DSuper 5 (French Market).

Great website! I thought I had the Wartburg bug, but you are way beyond me. I have two Wartburg 353's; a 1976 and a 1984. I imported them from Hungary last year and I drive them both regularly. I'm glad to make contact with another owner.

Fantastic! I had a Wartburg until recently and loved it! it's really good to find some fellow fans and to know that a large selection of cars were imported into the USA.

Learned about your site from an article in Hemmings Motor News. Nice site you have here dedicated to these interesting, obscure cars...enjoyed it very much. Got a kick too out of reading the hate mail! LOL

Hello: I actually know what a Wartburg is!! I read about them in my "World Cars 1975" book that I have. I also can say that I actually rode in a 1985 Skoda 120!!! That was really neat!! My collector car in my garage is a 1963 Studebaker Lark 4 dr. Sedan, in fully restored condition. I am enjoying your Wartburg website. The Wartburg is a real piece of automotive history. I am glad you are the keeper of the flame!! Sincerely, David Murphy

I cannot remember ever seeing a Wartburg in the U.S. but on a trip to Dusseldorf in about 1994 I spotted one in the back row of a used car dealer's lot. Talk about slow-moving merchandise, this car had moss growing out of the aperture surrounding the trunk lid! ;)
